Regional product market

Once a year, usually in September, the Count d’Ursel opens his castle to the public. Because yes, the castle is still in private hands: the count lives with his wife in the many rooms, so you cannot visit it on normal days.

Don’t have too high expectations, because even during this regional product market you are not allowed to enter the rooms of the castle, but only in the gardens and courtyards. But that is definitely worth it: you would never expect from the outside that such a mini world is hidden behind the ramparts.

Of course, a lot of people always come to visit, and especially when the weather is nice it is a pleasant crowd; a mix of locals, tourists and of course the count himself. In the courtyard there are several stalls with regional products, from saucisson to foie gras to organic wine, which you can taste on the lawn or under the trees. Our favorite (secret) spot is at the very back. At a certain point you have to pass under an arch somewhere, then take a bend to the right and you arrive at a small private terrace with a view of the Ourthe and Villa Louise. Sun on your head, wine in hand, plate of charcuterie, good company: that’s how I can spend all my afternoons.

The regional produce market (Marché de Terroir) usually falls in September. Check the calendar to know the date.
