The megalithes of Wéris

Wéris (pronunciation:weeris) has been named one of the 25 most beautiful villages in Wallonia. Apart from the fact that it is indeed a picturesque village, Wéris is best known for its megaliths. There are several dolmens and menhirs that would have been built there more than 4500 years ago by the then inhabitants. The excavations also found potsherds, arrowheads and remains of human bones.

In the center of Wéris you can learn more about the megaliths in the Megalith House. The museum is a bit outdated but certainly interesting if you want to learn more about the history of the megaliths. If you prefer to explore, you can also get hiking maps for some beautiful walks through Wéris and the surrounding area, along the dolmens and menhirs. In Villa Louise there is normally a plasticized version that you can take with you on your trip. Or just download them here, along with some quiz questions to solve along the way.

There is also an excellent restaurant in Wéris, Le Cor de Chasse, which was awarded a Michelin star. Definitely worth a detour.

Wéris is located just under 10 kilometers from Durbuy, it is best to take the car.
