A cozy restaurant at the foot of the castle of Durbuy, that is Le Fou du Roy. Inside it is very homely decorated with many small tables between all kinds of curiosities. But what many don’t know, and what you don’t see very well from the outside, is that Le Fou du Roy also has a very nice terrace. You actually sit in a courtyard that was once part of the grounds of the castle, but that has now been given up for the restaurant. With the canopies above it is perfect for a typical Belgian summer evening.
The cuisine is not very cheap but refined. They call it “traditional French, refined with Italian influences”. There were three of us and we opted for a lawyer’s tartare, Ardennes pâté with pickles and cheese croquettes as a starter, and beef tartar as a main course (we were a bit more unanimous there). This time it was honestly a little less special than we were used to other times, and it was also a very long wait. Maybe it was because there was a large group? Because normally this is an address where we like to return often.
Like all good restaurants in Durbuy, reservations are a must during the weekend. More information can be found on their website.
